There are many stores outside of the Amazon store that you can buy books for the Kindle. Most bookstores offer the EPub or Mobi format. If you can buy a non-DRMed Mobi book you can put it on your Kindle. If you can buy a non-DRMed E-pub book you can put it on your Kindle.
