Just over a third of the way through now, and at last I've found a correction in the Edinburgh 1895 Edition that I can definitely say is a true correction over the ordinary 1895 edition.
At the beginning of chapter 12, the position of a boat is given in the 1886 UK and 1895 UK editions as

we lay becalmed to the east of the Isle of Canna or between that and Isle Eriska in the chain of the Long Island.

(emphasis added.) East is incorrect. The boat must be lying to the
west of Canna, and it is so corrected in the 1895 Edinburgh edition.
It's so nice to find that I probably was right to take the 1895 Edinburgh edition as my initial starting point, despite subsequent doubts!
