Her explanation was that you would lend the (BN) book to anyone via email, they could download the BN ereader app if they had no nook or the app, provide a credit card # for DRM purposes, and once it was loaded into the BN ereader app, it could be transferred to ANY ereader that could handle epubs (we spoke specifically of a Sony as an example).

I was a bit skeptical, but figured this would be a good place to get clarification. Not a deal-breaker or anything. Just like to have my facts straight. I can understand being able to lend to someone who only has the BN ereader app, but then moving the book to a non-BN reader seems a little far-fetched. But she insisted it was so.

Of course, she also said all pbook-equiv ebooks (orig pub date over 2 years) are $7 or less. Yeah, right.

Thanks
There are two ways to share books with the B&N DRM:

1. The Lending option. This only works for books where the publisher has allowed this option. You can only lend a book once. This is a great option to lend books to strangers.

2. The B&N social DRM does not tie your books to any hardware or software ID (unlike the Kindle and Adobe Epub DRM). The B&N social DRM is contained within the book itself. Anyone who knows the credit card number (the social part of the DRM) and name the book was bought with can open the book.
Of course this only works with hardware/software that supports the B&N DRM. So the Nook or the software B&N readers. Not Sony at the moment.

So you can indeed e-mail someone else the e-book. And if they have a Nook or software B&N reader they can open the book by typing in the credit card number and name and read it.
Used credit card number and name combinations are saved. So if you type in the credit card number and name the first time yourself, the other person does not even have to know those.

This makes the Nook a great reader for families and friends who would like to share books. You do not have to register all to the same Kindle account, or register all devices to the same Adobe ID (6 device limit).
In my opinon B&N should give much more information about this advantage of their DRM, competing with other readers.
