I always keep originals, so if it's an original, I keep it no matter how "bad" it may look. I may find tomorrow that even though the original had no italics, it actually had special symbols that didn't convert well. If it's just a bad conversion, I delete and try again.
If you can't get metadata from filename and you can't get it from internal metadata, you're hosed
