I'm pretty sure if Amazon was going through our private documents, some whistle blower would have spread the word already.
if you look through the forums, you will find them discussed ad nauseum. We did, in fact, hear about the 1984 thing. Since this is a forum dedicated to ebook reading, we manage to keep up on things like that. As it is, Amazon promised to never do that again. Believe what you will. Yes, Amazon employees could commit ID fraud. So can the pizza boy you gave your credit card to last week. Most of us share a good deal of our information on a daily basis and leave ourselves vulnerable. I don't see Amazon as posing a unique risk.
As for the child porn, I think I'm much more at risk of being framed by someone I know. Besides, I doubt any individual Amazon employee would have the ability to place something on my Kindle and erase all record of it.
If you want to discuss privacy policy, it would be best to start a new thread. This tread is already quite long and it's not really on topic.

excellent points and well stated. Reminds me of a saying I read somewhere, I wish I could remember, but it was "...a birth certificate is proof of death..." I think it was a Heinlein line in his Notebooks of Lazarus Long. I took it to mean that it's all too short to worry about so just roll with it as it comes.
Anything can happen at any time, trust me I am very aware of this, so why worry about any of it...look at the state of the world today in spite of the worry, fears and hand-wringing. Sure has made a difference...
