I got a screen protector off Amazon for my PRS300 which completely solved the problem, without affecting readability of the screen - only cost a few pounds.
Downside is now I have my iPad my reader doesn't get used at home (And yes I have no issues reading an LCD for hours at a time...indoors at least
)
