Thanks for starting this thread - it's very interesting to read numerous points of view and what happens behind the scenes (illuminating).
I admit I, personally, had a doubt about the very high failure rate until the analogy of the American idol was mentioned, now I understand totally from the little I've seen of the UK equivalent.

Has the electronic media explosion made the task for the agents and publishers harder ? and can it be quantified in anyway ?
