Kobo hands on
I was at Chapters today nearby in Oshawa. First time I was able to use a Kobo reader.
The screen looked nice under bright lights.
Accessing options/menus were not snappy but well within reason
The build-in books load within a few seconds.
Turning pages were also fast. I would say less than a second.
I was able to read comfortably at the smallest font setting using my glasses.
The unit is well build but the black one looks cheap for some reason.
All units in inventory were 1.4 according to the lady who was working there.
My only negative experience was, out of the five demo units they had on the desk four were frozen solid. Even the power buttons were not working.
I guess they need paper clip reset but I did not try.
At the end of the day, the hardware is capable enough for enjoyable book reading, but the bugs are still there. Hence the frozen units.
I will keep an eye on the upcoming firmwares for Kobo. It is still on my possible buy list.
