Finished "The Long Goodbye" today. Chandler is every bit as good as I want him to be when I read a book by him every few years. Marlowe's outlook in the future of America is grim, but then again, was he wrong? This one felt like Chandler was wrestling with the fun of a detective yearn and the need to show post-war America for what it was turning into. Can't wait to get into the discussion of it!

An aside: I read this in paperback because I felt paying close to $10 for a PDF with DRM was too much for a 60 year old book. I haven't had the e-reader all that long, but I am already far more comfortable reading on it. Holding a book and trying to keep pages open just felt like too much work, now that I no longer have to.

Get those backlist titles out there for $5 a pop, publishers, even with DRM, and I'll be all over it!

Moving on to Oryx and Crake now by Atwood. Been a few years since I've read her as well, and she's another favorite. August has been a good reading month so far, and it just got started...
