This sounds fishy to me. Can't they just pour bleach down them and make sure they are clear. What justifies replacing them?
I know A/Cs are not cheap... but you hope to get 10-15 years out of a new unit... and it might save you a bit of electricity cost depending on how old the one being replaced is... given the newer ones are much more energy efficient.
(That reminds me, got to call and schedule our annual A/C service.)
