I don't remember not being able to read although I remember learning some sight words in first grade ( no kindergarten for me!) My mom always took us to the library and I was always read to by someone. We had these great storybooks that came with a set of encyclopedias we had. We read those over and over again. Of course, being born in the '50's, there weren't near as many distractions for kids as now. My mom still loves to read, and she is 89!
