Is 30 seconds normal on the Sony, or is this just with the external firmware? Or are you opening at a very large cover image?
Opening into the middle of a 455 (paperback) page book on my Elonex takes 3 seconds (about 10 seconds if opening instead to the cover image on the first page), and it was about the same on my Cybook. It would be interesting to hear the timings for the Kindles.
