If you mostly read in the shade I'm guessing it's less of a problem. That being said I can feel my Kindle getting warmer when I read outside in the sun but than again we get very little strong sun up here in the north so it's never been a problem

I would also think that Amazon tests these things. They wouldn't release the device if it couldn't be used outdoors.
