I agree ePub is the best format and it is open source, but it is NOT
THE standard. You can argue that VHS was the standard for video tapes, and that BluRay is the standard for HD DVDs. But ePub is far from being THE standard ebook format. With a large percentage of non-ePub books being sold your statement has no validity.
