The page numbers are a 'feature' of the ADE epub reader supplied by Adobe. I think a search of the site for 'page numbers' would show that nobody likes them - except for somebody in charge at Adobe. Almost all the readers that support Adobe DRM have these numbers - I think I heard that the Sony 900 doesn't have page numbers, but I've never seen one to check.
