Sadly, Jim. Joe Public now has his own slushpile to wade through. There are thousands of self-published books appearing annually -- more by the year. They are not, by any means, all readable. I can well understand some authors' frustration with what are now known as the industry's fuddy-duddy and fussy 'gatekeepers', but I think many readers will soon come to appreciate the frustration an acquisitions editor suffers several times a day.
