Do the same conversion again, but this time point to a empty directory in the debug area under conversion. After the conversion fails you will have the initial html file in the directory you pointed to in debug. Open this html up in Sigil. Insert a bunch of chapter breaks to split the html, then save as a epub. I then add this epub to calibre and do a epub to epub conversion to ensure the file is formatted the way I like it.
I had one of this problem a while back. What I did was set the EPUB file split size to 400K (hold your horses ) , then it converts

THEN
I convert EPUB to EPUB , SETTING the file size in the convert window back to the default :260K
