Hint: not the format is important - the DRM scheme is. Who holds the DRM encryption servers holds all the power.

The problem with this reasoning is that Amazon allows publishers to publish without DRM, regional restrictions or TTS turned off. If you're an independent you can publish your works with as much freedom, and many times more freedoms, than almost all the rival ePub only major ebook sellers. DRM will become useless and abandoned within a few years, just as it was with digital music.
