Thanks for all the welcomes.

I have to agree with many of you that the Sony is a fine device. My husband bought his on a whim, at Borders, and loved it immediately. We decided I should get a reader, too (no more space in the house).

What I liked about the Kindle, was the selection (in '08 Sony had a mere 20,000 titles ), and the price differences (again, in '08 Amazon often offered titles for less). I do have to admit I also like the wireless downloads.

If I had to buy my first reader now, it would be a real difficult choice.
