I know I am going to get shot, but I think the whole LCD causes eyestrain is mostly psychological. People convince themselves it is so and therefore it is. I think used correctly it is no more or no less straining then eink. Eink just has other strengths in terms of daylight readability. But I get eyestrain reading eink in low light, so it goes both ways.
