Though it's a lot closer to the French back when the French colonized North America than the current dialect in Paris is.
I heard a story years back about a big construction project in Montreal, where most of the workers were French speaking, and they decided to import French speaking foremen from Paris. After a while, they sent the Parisians back and hired English speaking foremen, where at least it was
explicit that different languages were being spoken.
