Yes, as far as I know it's just the driver that's a problem (there was no 64-bit driver at all, let alone a certified one).

That's what I'm hoping, but it's possible that the program still talks to the reader with its own protocol in addition to the reader acting as a mass storage device (I had a Palm PDA that did that, for instance).
