Hi Joop,
You don't have to apply any styles to output ePub with ODFToEPub. It will just pick up the styles in your document. There are a couple of optional styles you can add to control the layout of synthesized stuff such as the table of contents or the alphabetical index.
I respect your choice for free software of course.
