I, ahem, own a few. I can't help it -- I'm another one of those people who loves gadgets. I love bargains, too, and I've been able to get all of mine pretty cheaply:
ACER Aspire One Netbook -- I use this as my primary computer, but when I first started reading e-books this is what I used, with Mobipocket.
Palm PDA -- I use it for reading in bed at night, because it's backlit. I got it off of ebay, cheap, and ordered a new battery and installed it. I use Mobipocket on it, and it works great for me. It was my first "dedicated" reading device.
JetBook Lite -- I got it from NewEgg, I think it was, for $99.
Sony PRS-300 -- Couldn't pass it up. It was $107 from Buy.com.
Kindle 2 US -- Another one I couldn't pass up, because I grabbed one of the refurbs for $109, including shipping. This one seems to be the best deal so far and I'm really enjoying it.
I too make sure that I "unlock" all of my books so I can put them on all of my devices. I actually do read on all of them, although lately the K2 is staying with me in my purse. The JBL seems to be a little hardier, so I take it with me if it might get knocked around or damp or something. The Sony stays beside my favorite chair.
No, I can't sync across them, and I DO read the same book on more than one. It usually isn't that hard to get to my place in the book, though. I can generally remember what is happening in the story.
