I have read about the Mercer's unfortunate slipping issue, and would most likely use keep a large rubber band to hold it in. Unfortunately, it still keeps one end exposed. I wasn't aware that it wasn't tough enough, however; the BN.com reviews suggested it was fine in that department.

The Dillane cover you suggested unfortunately has open sides, meaning dirt/grime could easily get in.

As for the Hutton cover, I'll agree that it is terribly ugly. But it appears to be quite functional, which is what I seek. I just wish it wasn't so expensive, so if there's a similar item available through a third party, I would gladly consider it. (For example, I saw in another thread that a dealextreme reading light was found to be extremely serviceable at a fraction of the cost of retail alternatives.)
