Every large company needs the occasional competitive butt whupping or near-catastrophic business disaster to regain its humility. Microsoft has had a couple of those, lately, not least of which is Vista.

The article says all of the new features will be available to the old version. That is very uncharacteristic for Microsoft. They could just be acting like nice guys for the PR value, but does that really matter?
