Bill Thompson, regular BBC columnist, notes his experiences trying (and failing) to purchase "DRM-free" music from Amazon: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7022157.stm

Apparently they will only sell to US customers, as verified by the billing address on a credit card. This reminds me of the Wowio geographic restrictions on their "free" (non-DRM, advertising supported) ebooks. Sometimes I wonder if someone in the industry is trying to encourage piracy.
