I'm afraid I'm not good with cameras and never took them on any of my travels - I sort of regret that now but at the same time I saw so many people permanently looking through a lens finder that they never really experienced any of the places they were actually in. I did find this picture on
this site which is close to how I remember it:
Below the clouds it's all jungle/forest, heavy rain and mud. Above the clouds the surface is like grit which is incredibly hard work to climb. As dusk fell you'd also get a red glow being reflected in the high clouds above the lava. Oddly enough there are people living in small villages on the side of the volcano. Imagine living in a tin shack, where it rains every day and the ground is always mud, then add the very real risk of either the volcano or the local army killing you at any moment. It was a beautiful place to see but a god awful place to live.
