I agree, the page is often hard to turn because it's too smooth. And the weight is a bit too high to hold comfortably in one hand, but, with some practice you might manage to keep it open! And you could even do something about that smell, just put a tissue with some perfume in front of your nice, it's what they did in the 1700's as well (you know, when washing wasn't really in vogue...)!
