Like nomesque, I liked that book, but I'm a Bryson fan. However, saying that, it is not close to my favourite, and my partner was not fond of it at all, actually giving up on it before the end. I would say that, to my mind, it's not his best. I personally like his
Notes From A Small Island probably the most, and a natural (given my location) second nod to
Down Under/In A Sunburned Country. They're the better "travel" books of his, I reckon.
A Short History of Nearly Everything is also a good (if "short", considering its subject matter

) read, though not "travel".
Normally I wouldn't suggest another book by the same author if a person has not enjoyed one...but it
might be worth giving another a go in this case, if the chance crops up, Trebro. My recommendation would be
Notes From A Small Island.
