Yes, there was not much of a story. Just that endless chase through the desert without a big climax. Sea serpents were put to good, new and interesting use. For lack of action, the story could have focused more on politics - but didn't. It all felt rather fragmented.

I'd still buy the next book though- and I think it's time for a re-read of the previous books
