Also I would have to say that the jetbook will read PDF's created from scans of magazine pages. As most magazines and news papers place their articles in columns I have found that you can zoom in (in steps of course as it is not step-less) until the column almost fills the screen and then just scroll down until you reach the bottom then move over and scroll up to the top to start the next column etc. If the column doesn't look good in portrait then rotate to landscape and adjust and view. When you want to switch to the nexty page you hit the page button.

I agree with the others about the hassel of doing this and really the next best alternative would be to use your larger PC sceeen. But for view a PDF on a small screen the option of having "Text Flow on/off" is great. Yeah it dosen't work with these scans but then again it will with other PDF's.

One more thing (going on my memory here) If you use the jbL and use the quad-screen or 9-segment screen you cannot advance to the next page until you revert back to normal viewing. It you zoom you can pan around the screen and keep the zoom the way it is then when ready just hit the page advance button or the slider and it will take you to the top left cornner of the next page. Then if your scanning was consistent you could resume your reading without making adjustments. Sounds like a fair compromise to me.

Formats won't be a problem as long as the JBL can read e-Pubs and PDFs (anything else can be converted in calibre). So far, I fully agree with what everyone has to say about my PDFs would be better read on a reader with a larger screen. However, one of the more desireable features one could want in an e-book reader is portability; I can't shoehorn a large one into my purse. I did carry around a "purse" big enough to carry a netbook but the thing was enormous--I've seen young men groan under its weight (10 lb)--but that got old fast (I was already old). The purse I have now is half the size of the old one (I don't have to carry the netbook around with me daily anymore; I just put it in my luggage when I travel) but will hold a 6" Astak Mentor (nice reader that handles e-books well but has no zoom for PDFs) and it weighs in at only 4 lb. (I still have to register it as a lethal weapon).

If I can just zoom enough to pretty much fill the page (and that zoom is persistent) then pan (or scroll) down until time to go to the next page, that should (hopefully) be a happy compromise for me.

I also like the idea of the JBL being able to use AAs. I should be able to use the Eneloops I always carry around with me anyway (usually two sets of four in my purse). That way, if the batteries run down on me, I can just pop in another set. If I should somehow find myself without batteries, I can pop over to the nearest 24 hr convenience store for a set of (overpriced) alkalines or (really overpriced) lithiums.
