For the apps on the device that use keyboard input, like the "search" function and the calculator, only the relevant pixels are flipped - the rest of the screen stays static.

I think the tx/rx across the bluetooth radio is going to have a vastly more deleterious effect on the battery life than the pixel flipping ever will.
