I also have a Nook Wifi. After softrooting, I've noticed a big dropoff in battery life - if I had it fully charged, and left it for a few days with minimal reading use, by the time I picked it up again, the battery would be completely drained and I'd have to charge it just to turn the device on. And I've always had airplane mode on.
I'm going back to stock 1.4. What I really wanted from softrooting was to use tags for organization, but that was a mess (see my other posts about this), so I'll go back to stock 1.4 and hope B&N comes to their senses and releases an update that deals with library organization.
