Sony Reader

I bought a Sony Reader in Toronto to help me pass the time in airports and aircraft while on an extended trip to New Zealand and Australia. The battery was getting low by the time I got to Sydney, so to recharge it I connected the Reader to a friend's computer using a USB cable. (The AC mains charger, which should come with the Reader, is an optional extra that adds about another $35.00 to an already expensive device.) Well, the battery was recharged - eventually - but every single one of my books was deleted.

I went to the Sony website to find a fix to this problem and - no surprise - found it to be totally useless. Next I went into the "friendly" Sony Store in Sydney only to be told, "Sorry mate, we can't help because we don't sell the Reader in Australia". No attempt was made to help.

I also find that the ebook store to be truly awful. For example: A search for "Queen Victoria's Little Wars" by Byron Farwell (Victorian history) returns some Danielle Steele novel!

The Reader itself is a neat little device, but I would not recommend it because the support and services needed to use it are so poor. Any Net Book is a better buy.
