it matters because it goes toward ethics and credibility of the company and executives of the company in question. In this case it is especially relevant due to Apple's obvious backroom/star-chamber involvement in aiding the "Big 5 Cartel" to move to the "agency model" which is about as anti-consumer a practice as exists today. It matters because it supports some of what Apple has long claimed they excel at which is "caring" about delivering the best products for their customers so the customer need do nothing more than shop via the brand itself.

Apple is not alone in this sort of issue...all mfg's are of the same ilk and, like the toothpaste tragedy of what, almost a decade ago now, they farm out mfg to the low bidder and look the other way when there are marginal if not down right criminal practices later down the road. They keep a level of abstraction from the actual mfg process so as to be able to claim "...it's not our fault because we care..." BS...
