The Graveyard Book is a very, very different book from American Gods. For one, American Gods is decidedly a "grown-up book", while The Graveyard Book had at least the trappings of a children's book. I've read both, but they don't compare at all and, in any case, you shouldn't judge Gaiman on one book. He's one of those authors who change style with almost all books. I'd suggest you check out a sample...
