My limited testing shows about a definite drop in battery life when I use the SD card. OTOH, given the time to restore the books that were on my original Kobo when it died compared to popping the SD card back in, I'm willing to put up with the drop in battery life (about 10-15% in my opinion).
What I'm more curious about is the effect of charge/discharge cycles on the battery life -- is it better to run the battery right down before charging , will recharging each night even if not really needed cause a shortened battery life.
BTW, one excellent way to drain the battery is to pop a SD card with a few hundred books in and let it start processing them. After the Kobo stalled and I plugged it into the computer, I noticed a file called koboreader.sqlite.journal was in the .kobo folder but the screen never went to the Plugged In screen. After fully charging and unplugging, it took another 30 minutes to finish processing and has been happy since.
Doesn't everybody buy a couple of hundred books in one purchase?
