If you have 32-bit Vista, don't put any 64-bit anything on it. It will cause you major problems.

SP2 requires SP1 be installed before it will install.

An excellent site for Vista is this one: http://www.vistax64.com/

They have walk throughs for fixing a number of Vista problems in the tutorials section.
