Hello, world.
Hi, all. Just an introduction thread. New Kindle delivered to my US address, but won't be in my hands until Tuesday when my DW returns. Meanwhile, reading up on how to deal with bclibraries and Overdrive, add fonts, etc. (But not screen savers. Honestly, I couldn't care less about screen savers on any device I own.)
I'm an author myself (but only of computer books), so I have very mixed feelings about DRM. Yes, I want to get paid for what I write. As Dr. Johnson said, only a fool writes for anything else. But I am also a consumer and reader, and I hate any DRM scheme that makes it onerous to have the "fair use" of content you have bought.
I will buy what I read (when not available legally for free), but I also have every intention of using every reasonable method (and even some unreasonable ones, if necessary) to ensure that I can get full and unrestricted access to the content I have bought. And, until Overdrive figures out that Kindles are good things, I'll undoubtedly use workarounds for them, since our BC Libraries system is getting more and more books available electronically.
Charlie.
