I have both DX models and I could tell immediately upon unboxing mine last night that the contrast was significantly improved. The text is noticeably darker and it's really noticeable on the "screensavers". Comparing the two DXs side by side with the bezels covered you can see that the background is a lighter gray and the text much darker.
My eyes are grateful.
