Yes, I think the survey is pretty bogus. First of course is the sample size, then it's makeup. Were the people surveyed familiar with the devices in question? Also, as far as the iPad specifically is concerned, was speed influenced at all by people flipping to the web to look something up? I find I do this fairly often now, where I couldn't do it on other devices...
All in all, I don't think the survey means much even if it was completely legitimate. Personally, I know I read at least as fast as I did with normal paperbacks whether I'm using my Kindle or my iPad. Maybe even faster. I know I certainly read a lot MORE since I got my Kindle. That HAS changed just a bit with my iPad because I find it's other apps and abilities a bit distracting. I find myself going to a website to look up something I just read and then surfing a few others before returning to the book. Or maybe even playing a quick game or something.
I have to say this though... I LOVE my Kindle. It was the best device I'd ever purchased. I've been diving into the iPad and reading on it for the past few weeks though and I have to say I think (for me) that reading on the iPad is just as good. My quandry is that if I think it's just as good, and does more, I should sell my Kindle to get the extra $$ for a device I won't be using as much. Problem is... I LOVE my Kindle. I'm not sure if I can give it up. I keep thinking of what if I MIGHT want it or need it for this or that. So I'm torn between doing the "smart" thing and my attachment to the wonderful Kindle.
