Hi from Australia - a KOBO purchaser
Hi all
I've just bought the KOBO e-reader and am really enjoying it. I'm travelling overseas next month and when I go away I always end up carting several books to read. I'm getting older, the books seem to be getting bigger and heavier and taking up more and more space in my luggage. I wanted a relatively cheap reader, which I only needed for novels, so nothing too fancy. The KOBO provides this.
It's clear from the forums the KOBO is having teething problems but it's also very clear that the company is working through and resolving those issues. I purchase through BAEN (science fiction, fantasy etc) and they're great. They've been doing digital versions for years, have a really strong author list, also have a free library of relatively recent authors, provide downloads in a very wide variety of ebook formats as well as bundling purchases at extremely good rates. I can also, loud cheers on my part, purchase new releases from them which is fabulous. I'd either have to buy new releases in hard back in Australia at a very expensive price or wait for a year for the bookshops to have them in paperback. Prior to getting the KOBO I was reading the BAEN books on my home PC, a tower, a little difficult to pack into my suitcase for travel.
Adobe Digital Editions had no problems recognising and transferring the books I own from BAEN. It took me about 10 minutes last night to transfer the 120 odd books I've bought over the past few years from them. I think they should keep me happy over my next trip.
I've also looked at the Borders and the Angus & Robertson sites, the new KOBO providers in Australia. There are some very cheap ebooks on both those sites some of which look interesting. So I'll probably try out a couple of those for my trip.
Cheers all
