Only issue I've had is the spontaneous power up glitch, which appears to have stopped as of the 1.9.11 update. Otherwise my experience has been problem free since I received my KT several months ago.

I can't speak for their eReaders but I wish that was true across the board. Down through the years I've had issues with the PS3, the PSP, several DVD/Blu-ray players and a $75k digital broadcast VTR....

Unfortunately, the strap has to remain otherwise there's no way of differentiating between sleep and power off. Moving the strap won't help either; no matter where it's placed it will obscure...
