I've decided I will live with the 32bit version for now, maybe do the suggested troubleshooting at a later date. The rest of my system is working well...

Thank you in advance for that. I have had this problem with all v5.xx releases. But this is the first time I thought to install the 32bit version. And that one did work.

I don't think any of those apply to my situation. There is no error message at all - but Calibre (64bit) just does not start. But the 32bit version does, no for now, I will use that instead.

And in fact I installed the 32bit 5.7.2 version and it runs fine. Next to the 64bit 4.23 version.

No error message. No special graphics card, just on board, and windows is current. Actually, I've installed the 32 bit version 5.7.2 in addition to the 64 bit 4.23, and it works fine.

Thank you for a quick reply. Status bar says 3.20 64 bit (I also found I have a 32 bit version, 3.11, that I do not use anymore). The downloaded file does say 3.32.0 and it is the 64bit version....
