I pulled my Kindle PW3 (5.6.5, jailbroken, DP75SDI, Wifi+3G, no special offers) out of my bag this afternoon and noticed it was unlocked, with some "smudging" artifacts on the last page I had open....

Yes, using a native toolkit will definitely be lighter on resources than running a full-fledged web browser. How much that'll matter in this case, I don't know.
