If I had the time (and a place to keep the thing) it would have been fun to build my own book scanner, but it would probably cost me more than USD 200 in material.

Thanks for the tip, but HTML pages converted to PDF bring out the worst in both formats. It would probably give a better result just to copy the relevant text from the article and save it as txt...

Tax or no-tax, what is impressive is that Amazon seems to have gotten the DRM right. The software has been out for a week and the DRM is still not cracked. :thumbsup:
