ePub, among the least uploaded formats

I've been doing a little accounting in MR's library and found that:

Total ebooks uploaded: 16254

by format:

Misc:742
ePub:2167
LRF:5417
eBookwise:3436
Mobipocket:4492

So, not considering "Misc" (LIT, pdf, rtf, etc.), ePub is the least uploaded format.
What are the reasons for this? Maybe because ePub is the newest format? Maybe because ePubs are not easy to create? What do you think?

I think there's your answer.

Simply the time factor. The LRF and Mobi upload sections have been around a lot longer.

If you count upload-pages, so far during 2010, for the different formats you get another picture:

Misc: 6 pages
ePub: 19 pages
SonyBBeB: 14 pages
eBookwise: 13 pages
Mobipocket: 15 pages

So currently ePub is the most popular format to upload here.

Makes sense. I think the real question is why some of the real 'heavy hitters' in terms of book uploads continue to upload IMP, LRF, PRC, but not EPUB? Especially since LRF was really only ever a Sony specific format and Sony has now abandoned it in favor of EPUB in their store.

A lot of people still upload LRF instead of epub as not everyone likes the look of epub versions on their Sony reader. When Sony release an update to the firmware on their readers to the latest version of ADE, this might change as it will bring with it things like justified text.

Until then, there will be a large loyal fan-base for LRF.

A lot of people use Book Designer to create the books and it does not support ePUB. All of the Sony devices can still read LRF and many think this format produces a better looking book that some of the other formats.
