Now also in epub format.
Wikipedia: The Big Sleep (1939) is a hardboiled crime novel by Raymond Chandler, the first in his acclaimed series about detective Philip Marlowe. The work has been adapted twice into film, once in 1946 and again in 1978. The story is noted for its complexity and is heavily influenced by classic Greek tragedy, with many characters double-crossing each other and many secrets being exposed throughout the narrative. The title is a euphemism for death; it refers to a rumination in the book about "sleeping the big sleep", and is not descriptive of the plot. In 2005, Time magazine included the novel in its 100 Best Novels published after 1923. |
Oh wow!! Thanks for this and the other Chandler books!

A small number of scanning errors exist. Notably the string "ail" in cases where it should be "all". e.g. "as tail as you" instead of "as tall as you".

Hello weatherwax,
I'm impressed with the clean xhtml in this book (most ePubs seem littered with class attributes). I wish everyone did them this way. Would you mind disclosing how you accomplished that? What tools, etc? If I use Calibre to make an ePub from text, it will attach a class attribute to every single paragraph. |
Thank you for enabling me to download this book
