Mary Travers of Peter, Paul & Mary Dies at 72
Mary Travers, one of the 1960's folk music icons died Wednesday. She had been fighting leukemia for several years.
She was best known as the silky blond part of Peter, Paul & Mary. Among their more popular songs they introduced were Blowing in the Wind, Puff the Magic Dragon, Leaving on a Jet Plane, and If I Had a Hammer. |
How sad. :( Some of the first songs I learned on piano and guitar were those listed. I even still have the album in my collection.
|
Goodbye, Mary.
Thanks for the music. Thanks for the memories. Thanks for the activism. |
*sigh* they brought Girl Scout Camp songs to life
|
My mom adored Peter Paul and Mary. I grew up listening to them.
|
Rest in peace Mary.. :*(
PP&M was my first date, 8th grade... A friend's older brother hauled a few of us to a concert. I never really saw them as protest singers, just as people who took such joy in the music they made together. |
